The legal team representing former National Signal Bureau (NSB) Director Kwabena Adu-Boahene and his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, has strongly criticized Attorney General Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, accusing him of violating their clients’ fundamental human rights and prejudicing the legal process.
In a statement released by Zoe, Akyea & Co. on March 24, 2025, the lawyers alleged that the Attorney General unfairly pronounced their clients guilty in the “court of public opinion” during a press conference, despite an ongoing investigation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). The statement described this move as an attempt to “poison” public perception against Adu-Boahene and his wife.
“The Learned Attorney-General has been a distinguished lecturer of law, and we cannot fathom why he would use the power of the press rather than his advocacy at the Bar to feed the general public with his prejudicial and skewed information,” the statement read.
The lawyers emphasized that their clients, despite being under investigation, have not been formally charged and should not be treated as criminals. They condemned the manner in which Adu-Boahene was arrested upon arrival at Kotoka International Airport on March 20, calling it an act of public humiliation. They also criticized the arrest of Angela Adjei Boateng the following day when she visited EOCO to inquire about her husband’s condition.
“It is difficult to come to terms with the fact that the Attorney-General is comfortable with the press where there is ‘no proof beyond reasonable doubt.’ The Attorney-General has become the press persecutor of our Clients, a judge in his own court while simultaneously asserting that he is still investigating the case,” the statement added.
The legal team further accused EOCO of violating attorney-client privilege by denying them confidential access to their clients and listening in on their conversations. They claimed that the government is weaponizing the legal system to tarnish the reputation of Adu-Boahene and his wife, who they insist are law-abiding citizens.
The lawyers concluded their statement by declaring their resolve to fight for their clients’ rights, warning that the Attorney-General’s actions undermine the principles of democracy and due process.
