Celebrated Ghanaian artist, Livingstone Etse Satekla popularly known as Stonebwoy made a powerful plea for recognition during his acceptance speech at the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).
After being honored once again, Stonebwoy took the opportunity to reflect on his journey and address past controversies.
“I have been very consistent, and I have been very hardworking throughout the years,” Stonebwoy remarked. “Ever since I won the Ghana Music Artist of the Year in 2015, I won it again in 2019, but we all see what happened.”
Stonebwoy’s comments alluded to the events of the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, now rebranded as the Telecel Ghana Music Awards.
That year, a high-profile altercation between Stonebwoy and fellow artist Shatta Wale marred the ceremony, resulting in the Artist of the Year award being withheld.
Addressing Charterhouse, the organizers of the awards, Stonebwoy continued, “So I just want to please with Charterhouse, as honorable as they are, to make sure that they announce the winner, which I’m confident that it was Stonebwoy for 2019.”
The 2019 incident between Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale, which escalated on stage, led to significant media coverage and discussions within the Ghanaian music industry. Both artists have since moved on, with Stonebwoy focusing on his music and continuing to build his career.
The 25th TGMA saw Stonebwoy being recognized TGMA Artist of the year. His speech highlighted not only his personal achievements but also underscored the need for resolution and clarity regarding past awards.
As the Ghana Music Awards continue to evolve, Stonebwoy’s appeal for fairness and acknowledgment serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and integrity in celebrating artistic excellence.
