There is heavy Police presence at Japekrom in the Brong Ahafo region following the killing of 42-year Wofa Sina Atta by gunmen believed to be from Drobo, a rival community.

15 others were injured in the shooting incident and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The deceased, who is well-known as the Youth Leader of Japekrom, was among those leading the townsfolk including chiefs, as part of activities marking their Munufie Festival when the shooting took place Wednesday afternoon.

About fifteen other natives of the town have also been injured in what appears to be an attack by snipers who were hiding in a storey-building, believed to be the Palace of the Drobo Chief, according to Police in the region.

Japekrom and Drobo, both twin towns, are said to have a long history of rivalry over land.

Speaking to Starr News, the Brong Ahafo regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong stated that the Police is yet make any arrest in relation to the shooting incident.

Chief Inspector Oppong added that investigations are still ongoing to arrest the perpetrators of Wednesday’s incident.

He added that the Police is doing its best to prevent any retaliation.
