Sports Minister Kofi Adams has expressed high expectations for Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to him, the senior national football team will do well despite the absence of a head coach currently.
“This is a World Cup that I see us doing well. We should be hopeful. We may not have the best of players that we had in some time past, based on them playing together for some time. But we still have what it takes for us to go very, very far. Maybe possibly even win the World Cup,” he said in an interview on Channel One TV.
The Minister, who is also also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Buem, also acknowledged that the Black Stars are currently in a period of transition.
With the coaching spot currently vacant, he noted that the team is not yet at its peak “readiness.”
”If I tell you that we are ready… we don’t even have a head coach. So it means that we are not fully ready yet. But I see us being ready by the time it’s time for us to play our first game—against Panama,” he added.
The Ministry of Sports and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) are currently searching for a new coach for the Black Stars following the dismissal of head coach, Otto Addo.
