Decision to expel Prof. Frimpong Boateng harmful and misguided – Arthur Kennedy warns NPP

Dr. Arthur Kennedy, a founding member of the NPP, has described plans to expel Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng as “misguided” and urged the party to focus on reconciliation and unity.

Dr. Arthur Kennedy, a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called plans to expel former Environment Minister Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng “misguided,” warning that it could further harm the party.

The comments come after the NPP initiated formal expulsion proceedings against Prof. Frimpong Boateng following his interview, in which he described the party as a “fake party” and alleged the 2023 presidential primary was rigged in favour of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The party has rejected these claims and cited constitutional provisions in commencing the expulsion process.

In a statement, Dr. Kennedy described the interview as “patriotic, visionary, nationalistic and inspiring,” noting that “in the very short segment on the NPP he expressed his frustration with the direction of the NPP with words that could have been chosen better. But he was right that the party is off course.”

He also noted that Prof. Frimpong Boateng’s allegation of a rigged primary echoed claims by others, including Kennedy Agyapong, and urged the party to focus on reconciliation rather than punishment.

“The NPP will not bring home the 1.2 million followers who voted for John Mahama with threats and expulsions. Only humility and reconciliation will bring them back. No good party would expel a national treasure like Frimpong Boateng. The honour in the Professor’s association with the party belongs to the NPP, not the Professor,” he said.

Dr. Kennedy added, “Listening to him, I wondered why we are not drafting him for President!! Finally, historically, criticism of one’s party has often been a prelude to great leadership. Lenin, Reagan, Clinton, Blair, Trump and NADAA all had criticisms of their party before going on to lead those parties.”

He called for tolerance and inclusion, urging the NPP to “build bridges to unite, not walls to divide. God bless NPP and Ghana.”
