The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Essikado-Ketan in the December 7, 2020 parliamentary election has been hit with a 20 thousand cedi cost by a Sekondi High Court 1 presided over by Justice Dr Richmond Osei Hwere after filing for a discontinuance of the election petition case.
The counsel for Dr Grace Ayensu Danquah, David Ametepe who is the petitioner however tells Empire News that the move is to ensure the party puts its house in order as the next general elections are only 2 years away.
The Counsel maintained that the pending case has virtually brought all developments in the constituency to a halt disputing claims that the petitioner had no solid case, hence the discontinuation of the case.
On his part, Lawyer Emmanuel Tsibua, Counsel for the first respondent, Joe Ghartey, who held brief for lawyer Frank Davies who was absent in court today said they are unhappy with the amount of cost awarded they have incurred a lot of costs.
He said they wished a heavier cost was awarded to serve as a deterrent.
It would be recalled that the petitioner, Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah filed a petition at the Sekondi High Court to challenge the parliamentary results announced by the Electoral Commission (EC) on December 9, 2020.
The petitioner had prayed the High Court to ask the First Respondent, Mr Joe Ghartey, who was the parliamentary candidate then in the said election and a sitting Member of Parliament (MP) for Essikado-Ketan, and the second respondent, the EC, to explain the late introduction of strange ballot boxes at the collation centre in the night, which compromised the pink sheets from the polling stations.
