A Smartlab and E-library facilities have been commissioned at St. Peter’s Senior High School to bring revolution to the teaching and learning of Information Technology Communication (ICT).

The projects which started in March 16, 2022 cost about $72,000.

The smart laboratory and E-library cost  $52,000 just for the provision of the ICT infrastructure and capacity building of teachers whilst civil works on the project – provision of furniture, air-conditioning and other furnishing amounted to Ghc200,000 equivalent to about $20,000, all funded by Kabaka Foundation, a non-governmental organization (NGO).

The SmartLab is fully integrated and customized facility where students can explore many disciplines through applied technology and project-based learning.

The Smartlab will aid students in graphic design, robotics, artificial intelligence, various scientific applications, digital animation, scientific data analysis among others.

It is arguably, the first of its kind in any Second Cycle institution in Ghana.

Commissioning the facilities at the sidelines of the climax of St.Peter’s SHS   65th anniversary, founder of Kabaka foundation Nana Owiredu Wadie I, said “the world is changing faster than we realize, and education is at the forefront of this change. The 4th industrial revolution is underway with the introduction of smartlabs and we need to prepare ourselves to partake adequately in this, in our quest to attain development.I implore all of us to think about ways through which we can change this great school to meet the needs of this industrial revolution as we celebrate all it has been able to achieve so far”.

He was optimistic that the Smart Laboratory and E-library will build intellectual capacity of students in applied science and ICT to help the industrialization and digitization agenda of the country.

The Executive Director of Kabaka Foundation, Dr. Henry Larbi told the media that the project is “ in line with Nana Owiredu Wadie’s development agenda through the Kabaka Foundation. He’s bringing development to Kwahu – Nkwatia and he is being assigned as the Board Chair of St. Peter’s SHS, he was asked to help provide a smart lab for the school and as we stand here today.”

He added that ” we are now in the industrial revolution whereby there is a new way to use artificial intelligence and to use robotics in solving problem in developing countries and economies  so these students are going to have access to these artificial intelligence, robotics and  any other things that they will need for the future because now we don’t only need just a public servant to just sit down but students need to be innovative so this is the best opportunity for them to be innovative” he  said.

The facilities are expected to also enhance chances of St. Peter’s SHS, former National Maths and Science and Quiz champions to recapture the first position of the competition in the coming years.

Dr. Henry Larbi further stated that Kabaka Foundation led by Nana Owiredu Wadie (I) will continue to mobilize resources to support the construction of an assembly hall in the school.

The Unveiling of the plaque by Nana Owiredu Wadie (I) was accompanied by Nana Ofori Mireku (I) who represented Kwahumanhene, Nana Boamah Ayirepa (III) Kwahu Nkwatiahene, Nana Kwaku Boateng (III) New Juaben Omanhene , and Koforidua Catholic Bishop,Bishop Afrifa Agyekum.
