The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has directed the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to implement immediate reforms following the late arrival of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) question papers at Boako MA JHS in Sefwi Wiawso.
During a visit to the examination centre, the Minister expressed concern over the disruption, noting that candidates had already received answer sheets without the corresponding question papers.
“Ordinarily, you should have been 15 minutes into the exams. Is that not right? Part of your training was that you should have been seated at 8.30, start the exams at 9.00. But I see answer sheets without question papers is now on its way,” he said.
He stressed the need to urgently review the transportation of examination materials to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
“So we have to review how exam questions are transported to the examination centres. So, Director-General, you say on the way, cancel immediate reforms. Because you’ve taken 15 minutes of your time. I hope that you don’t lose it,” he added.
Despite the delay, Mr. Iddrisu reassured candidates and encouraged them to remain calm and focused.
He further assured students that the examination would remain within the approved curriculum.
“Nothing will appear in the question which is not part of the syllabus you studied. Is that right? Yes, Sir. So be confident that you are passing. Work hard to pass,” he said.
The Minister also urged candidates to uphold integrity throughout the examination process.
