Member of Parliament for Yendi, Abdul Fatawu Jofa, has accused the Minority of rejecting government’s explanations on Ghana’s ongoing power challenges despite what he describes as consistent efforts to keep the public informed.
Speaking on GHToday on GHOne TV, Mr. Jofa said government has been transparent with Ghanaians regarding the causes of recent power outages and the measures being taken to address them.
According to him, the Minority’s position is not based on a lack of information, but rather a deliberate refusal to accept government’s account of the situation.
“I think what the Minority is doing is to say that we won’t accept your explanations,” he stated.
He added that the Minority appears determined to maintain its own narrative regardless of official briefings provided by government.

Mr. Jofa defended government’s handling of communication on the power situation, noting that the Energy Minister had already provided updates during the government accountability series.
“We as a government have been very frank with Ghanaians,” he said. “We have carried Ghanaians along the way, and at every stage, we have provided details on what is happening.”
Addressing concerns over the scale of outages despite reported power losses, the Yendi MP explained that the structure of Ghana’s electricity distribution system makes it difficult to instantly redistribute power across all affected areas.
He noted that power supply systems are geographically structured, meaning disruptions in specific segments can directly affect designated areas.

“The way the electricity supply system is structured, it is fixed,” he explained.
Mr. Jofa maintained that government remains committed to resolving the energy challenges while ensuring the public is adequately informed, dismissing claims that authorities have been dishonest about the situation.
