Edward Adeti commends Albert Dwumfour for his bold leadership

The Best Journalist of the Year, Edward Adeti has praised Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), for his courageous and visionary leadership.

Mr. Dwumfour has called on the Akufo-Addo government, judiciary, and the Ghana Police Service for the immediate release of the remanded Democracy Hub protesters.

The demonstrators, initially engaged in peaceful protest, were involved in violent clashes with the police between September 21 and 23, 2024.

Currently, about 50 of the protesters have been detained, with nine in prison custody and the rest in police custody.

Addressing the situation during the 28th GJA Media Awards on Saturday, September 28, Mr. Dwumfour criticized the decision to remand the protesters for two weeks, calling it “too extreme” and a potential violation of human rights.

In an interview on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, Adeti, Mr. Adeti who was recently crowned Best Journalist of the Year, expressed admiration for Mr. Dwumfour’s leadership style, describing it as inspirational and worthy of emulation.

Mr. Adeti highlighted Dwumfuor’s bold approach to addressing industry challenges and promoting the welfare of journalists.

“I should commend the current GJA president Kwabena Dwumfor because i don’t remember the last time I heard a GJA president in the present of a president talking directly into his face, that you said you that , you have not done that.”

“He has been consistent, I think we should create an adjective for him, he is called Dwumfour, we should say he has been Dwumforic in what he has been doing and I think whoever comes after him should also be Dwumforic in whatever he does”, the award-winning Journalist stated.

His commendation underscores the positive impact of Dwumfuor’s presidency on the GJA and the journalism community in Ghana.

As a respected figure in the journalism fraternity, Adeti’s endorsement adds credibility to Dwumfuor’s leadership.

Edward Adeti, a writer with Media Without Borders, has been awarded the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) P.A.V. Ansah Journalist of the Year 2023 at the 28th GJA Media Awards held over the weekend.

Adeti’s investigative piece, “Stealing from the Sick,” uncovered the mystery behind drug shortages at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital and exposed a syndicate whose actions may have cost lives.

This groundbreaking work earned him the prestigious P.A.V. Ansah Journalist of the Year award.
