The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued a warning to consumers against the use of unapproved aphrodisiacs, citing serious health risks associated with many of these products.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Thursday, February 5, 2026, Rhoda Appiah, Head of Communications at the FDA, highlighted the rising abuse of sexual enhancement products, particularly among young people.
Her warning comes amid reports that both locally manufactured and imported aphrodisiacs are being sold openly in markets and aggressively promoted on social media, often without regulatory approval.
“From time to time, we conduct routine checks and swoops in the marketplaces and in some suspected unauthorised places,” Mrs. Appiah said, explaining the Authority’s ongoing surveillance efforts.
She added that products found to be unapproved are confiscated and safely disposed of, while investigations are carried out to identify illegal manufacturers and importers.
The FDA urged the public to exercise caution and only use sexual enhancement products that have been officially approved to ensure safety.
