Scores of participants at the Accra edition of the Starr Woman Project Saturday, June 24, 2017 left with common goals – “Follow your passion” and “dare to be different.”

They said they were inspired by the “true life stories of the speakers” who spurred them on to face challenges irrespective of the situation on hand. 

The “Starr Woman Project” an initiative of Starr 103.5 FM seeks to equip young women entrepreneurs with the relevant knowledge, skills and motivation to achieve their fullest potential as entrepreneurs.

After a successful event in Kumasi, the Accra edition treated participants to various topics and sessions from seasoned women entrepreneurs who have excelled in their various careers.

Speaking on the topic: “Personal and Career development”, the CEO of Rectrain Service Limited, Genevieve Puni elaborated on the need to be aware of the challenges that comes with being an entrepreneur. She noted the challenges will always be there, but would-be entrepreneurs have to face them head-on in order to succeed.

Pamela Sackeyfio, director of Rima TheraTouch indicated living healthy as a woman and posture management during a busy lifestyle is very important.

“Posture is important because once you move out of alignment all sort of things begin to happen to you,” Sackeyfio told the participants listening with rapt attention.

“Globally, a lot of people have issues because they sit too much. In Ghana, many do not like to exercise and that is dangerous. Good posture is the result of the proper alignment of the body; stress, pain, joint dysfunction are some of the causes of poor posture movement patterns. Most of the chairs in our offices are not properly adjustable,” she stated.

Touching on Personal Styling, CEO of Style Coaching GH and Head of Wardrobe EIB Network, Nancy Adobea Anane said “it’s important to know your million dollar spots as a woman.”

“You should know your wow colours as a woman, know the colours that suit you best. You should know your wow colours from your underwear to your outer-wear. As a woman, you should love yourself and feel good about yourself,” the Style Coach advised.

On her part, Gloria Buckman Yankson, CEO PlanIT Ghana, handling the ‘Entrepreneurship and Business Leadership’ session indicated that there is something about an entrepreneurial spirit that cannot just be caged.

“I love challenges; I made sure that whatever I wanted to do worked”.

One of the emotional and telling moments was when a female taxi driver, Esinam Nyador, also known as “Miss Taxi” shared her story and how she is excelling in her business. She told patrons though Society has defined what women are supposed to do, she defied the status quo.

“Women have passed the era of being beneficiaries of projects. For me, being a Taxi Driver is a gender statement. I do have all those degrees, but I am a woman and a Taxi Driver,” Miss Taxi stressed.

At the end of the event, participants expressed their appreciation to the organisers – Starr 103.5 FM – for the “rich, and memorable thought-provoking sessions which others have used about three years to acquire.”
