The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has begun nationwide enforcement of its directive mandating the use of official GoldBod receipts by all licensed gold buyers, after several postponements and grace periods granted to traders to regularise their operations.
This was announced by the Board in a statement issued on Monday, August 18, 2025.
According to the directive, the issuance of receipts is now compulsory for licensed aggregators, self-financed aggregators, and Tier 1 and Tier 2 buyers.
The measure, GoldBod stated aims to strengthen transparency, accountability, and integrity in Ghana’s gold trade.
Following this, GoldBod has deployed a task force and field inspectors across the country to monitor transactions and verify receipt records.
Licensed buyers have been instructed to make their receipt booklets available for inspection and cooperate fully with enforcement teams.
The Board also urged small-scale miners and gold traders to insist on official receipts for every purchase, stressing that failure by licensed buyers to issue them constitutes a serious offence.
Offenders, it warned, risk sanctions including suspension or outright revocation of their licences.
A portion of the statement noted, “GoldBod further advises all licensed small-scale miners and gold traders to insist on the issuance of GoldBod receipts for every purchase transaction undertaken with licensed buyers.
Licensed buyers are reminded that the non-issuance of GoldBod receipts constitutes a serious offence and may attract severe sanctions, including the suspension and/or revocation of their license.”
