Rising football talent Thelma Baffour has revealed attempts by Congo DR to convince her to play for their women’s national team after helping her club, TP Mazembe to win the CAF Champions league.
The striker featured in TP Mazembe’s side that clinched a dramatic 1-0 victory over Morocco’s AS FAR Club in Saturday’s thrilling final.
The 21-year-old promising striker, known for her exceptional skills revealed on THE GAME with Benjamin Yamoah that representing Ghana at the highest level is her utmost dream and will choose Ghana over Congo.
“My dream is that I will be playing for my country. I will be very happy to join the team, the team picking the cup or anything”.
“I will be very glad because that is my motherland. I wouldn’t play for any other country but my own. I was born and raised in Ghana, so I’m very glad. The president of the national team asked me if I had played for their senior team. I told her no, and she said she would talk to me. I know she is going to follow through,” the striker told GHOne TV.
Baffour was a star player for Jonina Ladies in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League in Ghana before joining TP Mazembe in 2023. She was known for her ability to score goals.
Thelma’s victory strengthens her legacy and brings pride to Ghana, as she follows in the footsteps of Blessing Agbomadzi, who won the same title with AS FAR.
Looking ahead, the 21-year-old striker has set her sights on Europe’s top football leagues.
