Liverpool 3-1 Manchester City: The Reds go eight points clear at the top

Liverpool has opened an eight-point gap between them and Manchester City after registering a 3-1 win over the Pep Guardiola side in a league game staged at Anfield on Sunday 10 November.

The first half was marred with penalty claims with Visitors City having the thought they had earned a spot-kick in the fifth minute after Alexander-Arnold looked to have handled a Bernado Silva cross but referee Michael Oliver was having none of it.

With Sergio Aguero complaining and Pep Guardiola going berserk on the touchline, Liverpool was to take advantage of their opponents switch off to open the scores a minute later. A quick move fell to Sadio Mane who squared the ball to Fabinho; the Brazilian sending a ferocious shot outside the 18-yard box to beat Claudio Bravo in City goal.

Liverpool’s Second

And even before City could settle after the setback, Mohammed Salah scored a second in the 13th minute. It was another beautiful cross from Andy Robertson with the prodding Salah heading in from close range; replays showing that the Egyptian might have been marginally offside.

City was growing in the game with Sergio Aguero missing the target in two occasions as they tried to get back into the tie but they couldn’t just do enough to prevent a Liverpool healthy lead going into the break.

With City back again to salvage the situation, it was Liverpool who tripled their lead through Mane in the 51st minute. Good work on the right side of the field saw Captain Jordan Henderson swing in a cross with Mane stooping to head in at the back stick. Bravo got two hands to it, but could only fumble the ball in his own net.

Bernardo Silva was to pull a goal back in eleven minutes from time at a time City had the lion’s share of possession and despite a late push, they couldn’t stop their rivals from picking up another important three points.
