President John Dramani Mahama has assured the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs of his administration’s commitment to equitable development across the country, highlighting improvements in the economy and ongoing infrastructure projects.
Speaking during a courtesy call by the chiefs, led by Nene Sakite II at the Jubilee House, the President said government efforts since assuming office have strengthened Ghana’s economic outlook.

“We are meeting all our debt obligations. Inflation is down. The currency has appreciated in value and we have a relatively stable macroeconomic environment. The economy is more resilient and is withstanding external shocks arising from the Middle East conflict. We are reaching important milestones and we remain focused,” he stated.
He added that following the completion of the IMF programme, the government intends to maintain fiscal discipline.

“After a successful completion of the IMF bailout, we intend to maintain the strict fiscal discipline that has resulted in the stabilization of the macroeconomic environment,” he said.
President Mahama also acknowledged ongoing challenges, particularly unemployment, stressing the need for private sector growth.

“Government alone cannot absorb the numbers, so we need to invest in the private sector to industrialize, other potential areas like agriculture to absorb the unemployed,” he noted.
