The lawyer of the jailed Abelenkpe branch manager of Marwako has served notice they will appeal the jail term handed to his client.
The Abeka district court presided over by Victoria Ghansah sentenced Mr. Chabaan, to nine months imprisonment after dipping the face of a female employee into blended pepper.
He was found guilty of assault and causing harm to Evelyn Boakye after the court rejected terms of the settlement by his lawyer.
Reacting to the sentence, lawyers of the beleaguered eatery branch manager said they “entirely disagree with the findings of the court.”
“We thought that we put up a very good defence, she [judge] thought otherwise. She did not even consider when the lead investigator on the case said in evidence before her that it was an accident.
“We have said time and again that this was an accident, she thought otherwise. We have taken instructions from our client to appeal immediately.
“We are going back to our chambers to start working on that process. One day in incarceration is so bad, so we are going to apply for bail pending appeal and of course this is a sad day for us,” Mr. Chabaan’s lawyer indicated in his first media encounter.
Background
Evelyn Boakye, the complainant, had dragged Jihad, 26, before the court for assault.
He was accused of dipping the head of Evelyn into blended pepper on February 26, 2017.
According to the prosecution, Jihad offensively conducted himself when he angrily called the complainant a “prostitute.”
