Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC), Naomi Alabi, has underscored the growing role of fashion and creativity in driving tourism and economic activity, urging greater investment in Ghana’s creative sector.
Speaking at the launch of the Creative DNA Fashion Accelerator by the British Council and My Runway Group, Naomi Alabi said global fashion platforms have demonstrated how creativity can become a major tourism and economic force.
Drawing comparisons with Paris Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week, and London Fashion Week, she noted that such events attract international visitors, investment, and global cultural attention while generating economic opportunities for their countries.
“I just like to connect our worlds because I’m sure everyone’s a bit confused about how tourism means creativity,” she said.
According to her, fashion and tourism are closely linked, with creative industries having the potential to position countries as cultural destinations on the global stage.
Naomi Alabi described the newly launched Creative DNA Fashion Accelerator as a platform capable of strengthening Ghana’s position as a hub for creativity and culture.
She explained that initiatives of this nature can draw people from different parts of the world to experience and appreciate Ghanaian creativity, talent, and innovation.
“So today, we’re here to celebrate a potential merger, one that will draw people from all corners of the world here to witness and appreciate the value that we have from a creative perspective,” she stated.
The GTDC Deputy CEO also congratulated the organisers and participants involved in the initiative and expressed optimism about future collaborations within Ghana’s creative ecosystem.
The Creative DNA Fashion Accelerator is focused on supporting and scaling Ghanaian fashion creatives and entrepreneurs, while contributing to the growth of the country’s broader creative economy.
