The Minister for Defence Dominic Nitiwul has refused reports that some lands belonging to the military have been sold to private developers.
Media reports are rife that some military lands around Tse Ado in Accra have been sold leading to eviction of some soldiers.
But taking his turn at the 2024 budget debate in parliament Mr. Nitiwul explained the only developments going on are partnerships signed onto before the Nana Addo administration came to office.
The Bimbilla MP further revealed he had rather fought for a 26 acres parcel of military lands sold, which he retrieved when he assumed office.
“This government under my reign has never, and I say never sold any military to anybody. In fact, there is a developer on a project for the armed forces. I originally cancelled it because that project was signed on 26 of December 2016. I originally wanted to cancel it but after weighing it in a space of three years and in 2019 on the advantages and disadvantages I thought that it should go ahead,” the Minister narrated.
According to him, the reason he placed some projects on hold is because there was a directive not to sign new contracts.
“Because that project was signed on 26 of December within the transition that is why I put it on hold. So if anybody says this government has signed anything new, it is wrong. It is not us,” Mr. Nitiwul explained.
