Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has been denied bail once again and remanded into police custody by the Accra Circuit Court.
The court, in its ruling on Friday, said the decision was to give prosecutors more time to conduct investigations into the charges brought against him.
Abronye is expected to reappear before the court on September 19, 2025.
Abronye was first arrested on September 8, 2025, by the Ghana Police Service for alleged “offensive conduct conducive to the breach of public peace” and publication of false news.
He has since been in custody, with his continued detention sparking heated public debate and criticism from members of the opposition.
When he appeared in court, Abronye was transported in a Black Maria under heavy security, as hundreds of NPP supporters thronged the premises to show solidarity.
Minority Leader and MP for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, National Youth Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, and former National Chairman Freddie Blay were among the party figures present.
Meanwhile, Afenyo-Markin has condemned the latest remand, describing it as a violation of Abronye’s rights.
He argued that the charges are misdemeanors and do not justify such prolonged detention, insisting that the case reflects what he called “two types of Ghana – one for the NDC and another for the NPP.”
Abronye is scheduled to return to court on September 19, 2025, as investigations continue.
