The High Court in Accra (Financial and Economic Division) has struck out an application for interlocutory injunction against the organizers of the already staged #OccupyBoG Protest.
This was after the Police (Applicant) withdrew the application which had become moot after they said, the event had already taken place “peacefully.”
On Wednesday, October 11, Principal State Attorney, George Tetteh Sackey told the Court that, the demonstration had already taken place and “we wish to withdraw the application.”
He added that the “demonstration was peaceful” when asked by the Court of the outcome.
Justice Edward Twum, consequently struck out the application as withdrawn.
Prior to October 3 protest, dubbed #OccupyBoG (Bank of Ghana) demonstration which was to demand the resignation of the governor Dr. Ernest Addison and his deputies, the Police raised concerns about the route of the protest.
The exercise was also geared towards registering their concerns over the central bank’s record of Ghc60 billion loss in the 2022 financial year.
But, after forth and back and the Police failure to properly effect service of the injunction application on the Respondents, the protest went on (on October 3) despite the case pending in Court.
The minority in Parliament led by Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and Arise Ghana’s Bernard Mornah, Rex Omar and Masawudu Mohammed are the Respondents in the matter
On Tuesday, September 26, the Police accused the minority of evading service and requested for one more attempt to have them served.
The exercise has since been held but the organisers have served notice of embarking on another protest after the governor of the Central Bank failed to avail himself to receive their petition.
