Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has cautioned that growing friction between Members of Parliament (MPs) and District Chief Executives (DCEs) in the region is threatening local development and effective governance.
Addressing the media in Kumasi on Monday, October 6, Dr. Amoakohene said the strained relationship between the two key political actors has led to unnecessary delays in the execution of government projects and weakened coordination at the district level.
He described the situation as counterproductive, stressing that such rivalries risk derailing the region’s progress.
“The rivalry and the fact that they are not on very good terms will hinder the approval of the District Assemblies Common Fund, which is meant for the MPs, and some use that as a way to settle scores,” he cautioned.
Dr. Amoakohene added, “In some districts, because they may not understand each other, they decide or pretend not to be aware of initiatives coming from the assemblies. This is not helpful. For local governance to work effectively, we need to carry along all stakeholders,” he said.
He called for renewed cooperation between MPs and DCEs, urging them to set aside personal and political differences to drive development and deliver tangible results for their constituents.
