The founder and general overseer of Ruach Elohim Ministries, Reverend Dr. Ismaila Hans Awudu, has encouraged Christians across the country to show up and cast their ballots when the polls officially open to elect the nation’s new leaders tomorrow.
Speaking on Starr Sanctuary this morning, the reverend said Christians who were also citizens had a say in which political direction the country headed.
He said the policies of politicians affected every citizen, including persons of faith; therefore, they could not afford to sit it out.
“When you got saved as a Christian, you didn’t go to heaven; you stayed on earth. Everything that goes on in your country affects you as well so are part and parcel of the processes, the policies, the plans, the governance system, the judiciary and everything you are involved so the Christian needs to exercise his franchise,” Rev. Dr. Awudu said on the morning show.
Reverend Dr. Awudu said one’s civic responsibility superceded all other obligations and it was important that it be taken seriously.
“Once you’re a citizen,” he said, “it is your civic responsibility to vote.
“If you are a Ghanaian, you have a say in the country’s democratic dispensation per our constitution,” he noted.
He encouraged Christians to view the right to vote as a means to hold leaders accountable.
His comments come as some sections of the Christian faith traditionally stay away from elections. Other groups, which consider Election Day, the Sabbath Day regard it as a day of rest.
