In a significant stride toward advancing equitable healthcare in Ghana, the Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central has commissioned a fully equipped community clinic in Berekuso, a town in the Eastern Region.

The initiative is part of broader national efforts to achieve universal health coverage by 2030.

Long plagued by limited access to quality medical services, residents of Berekuso now benefit from a modern health facility featuring a consultation room, pediatric unit, dispensary, and a dedicated maternity care wing. The clinic is expected to serve hundreds of individuals within the town and its surrounding communities.

Speaking to the media after the commissioning of the $200,000 facility on Saturday, May 10, 2025, President of the Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central, Rtn. Albert Bahun-Wilson stressed the club’s commitment to transformative service.

“This clinic represents more than just bricks and mortar. It is a symbol of compassion A beacon of hope. Our mission is clear: to ensure that quality healthcare is no longer a privilege, but a right, even in the most remote corners,” he said.

“We are not merely commissioning a building. We are igniting hope, affirming dignity, and laying the foundation for a healthier, stronger, and more empowered community.”

“For years, this proud community has faced challenges no one should have to endured.Limited access to healthcare, low literacy rates, economic hardship, and aging infrastructure.”

“This clinic stands as a shining embodiment of Rotary International’s mission: advancing disease prevention, maternal and child health, and holistic community development.”

Equipped to deliver a full spectrum of services from reproductive care to emergency interventions. The facility will serve not only Berekuso but also Pakro, Dago Pokrom, and neighboring areas.

The Municipal Director of Health Service for Berekuso, Emily Amponsah, welcomed the development, noting: “This facility will greatly enhance access to essential healthcare services for rural residents. It represents a meaningful step forward in addressing healthcare inequalities in the region.”

She added, “The newly inaugurated clinic is more than a healthcare facility. It is a symbol of hope and a promise of improved health outcomes for the people of Berekuso. It reflects a growing recognition that sustainable development must include accessible and high-quality healthcare for all.”

Rotary International President-Elect (RIPE) Mario César Martins de Camargo, present at the event, expressed admiration for the project’s alignment with Rotary’s global vision.

The well-attended commissioning ceremony brought together traditional leaders, health officials, community members, and Rotary dignitaries, including District Governor Rtn. Florence Maame Hagan and Rtn. Albert Bahun-Wilson.
