The International Relations and Diplomacy Network Ghana (IRDN Ghana) has held its end-of-year dinner at the UGMC Simulation Center in Legon.
The event, which took place at the UGMC Simulation Center in Legon, under the theme, ”Uniting for Democracy: A Commitment to Peaceful Elections,” seek to emphasize the importance of preserving Ghana’s peaceful climate was graced by various statesmen, from the country notable among them was Novisi Aku Abaidoo, Ghana’s former Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg, the European Union and Benin. Hon Roey Gilad Ambassador of Israel to Ghana (Guest of Honour) and the Keynote speaker Kojo Impraim (PHD) Director, Media Foundation for West Africa.
Addressing the event, the Ambassador of Israel to Ghana, Liberia and Sierra-Leone (Guest of Honour) commended Ghana’s effort to sustain our peace with the peace pact it’s political leaders signed heading towards the election.
“Since my arrival to Ghana three months ago I’m under the impression your Democratic system is very similar to ours both by merits but also challenges. The good spirit I have witnessed in the streets of was also reflected a few days ago when certain presidential candidates including the leading two signed a peace pact declaring their commitment to promote peace during and after the coming election.” He said.
Giving his keynote address, Dr. Kojo Impraim, cautioned the public to be critical thinkers and verify all information they receive. He also urges the press to establish a fact-checking desk to reduce the spread of false information.
“Let us verify today the information we receive especially election-related stories. The media houses should consider establishing a fact-checking desk. I am aware some media organization has started, However, I am calling the rest to come on board and have them established, if we do that we are going to have a peaceful election.” He said.
“The youth, please do not allow yourselves to be used as an instrument of violence. I encourage you to embrace critical thinking and ask tough questions from your candidates and flag bearers”, he added.
