A political communications lecturer at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Mohammed Adamu, has cautioned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, to beware of a pattern of quick, state-led responses to political matters which could backfire during the 2028 elections.
Speaking on Starr FM’s Morning Show, Morning Star on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, Adamu urged the government to develop “thick skin” to navigate the often-turbulent nature of Ghanaian political discourse.
The rhetoric currently being targeted at the state, he said, is simply “part of the game” and advised against utilizing security services to silence critics.
According to him, the Mahama administration seem to be repeating same mistakes of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in dealing with such rhetoric.
“We always say that politicians do not learn, and I mean, it’s a repetition of what happened, you know, in the former regime. It’s the same thing the NDC is doing now, and Ghanaians are taking note of it,” Adamu stated.
The lecturer said this while reacting to the recent arrests of the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye and Baba Amando over alleged offensive political comments.
The lecturer highlighted that the old political adage that voters have short memories, is over as the rise of digital media as a tool for accountability has been the average voter very conscious of his political environment.
“The NDC government must be very, very careful about some of these things because it may come back and haunt them, you know, in the 2028 election,” he said.
