Former President John Mahama has urged the leadership of the Church of Pentecost to appeal to President Akufo-Addo fix the last tranche of the road that leads to their convention centre at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central region.
Mr. Mahama who addressed the church during the farewell service of the immediate past chairman Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah Sunday said even though his administration did some work on the road to the centre, it must be completed to match the state of the edifice.
“I remember in the early days when this centre was built, I attended as president, and in the course of Apostle Onyinah’s speech, he said ‘I invited you here intentionally’, and I was puzzled. He said ‘you see the road you traveled on’? And indeed if you arrived here and you saw the work that had been done here in terms of the magnificence of the centre and the road that led here, it was like day and night.
“And I took a cue from it and so I directed the officers of the urban roads and they did some work on it. This time a lot of the journey came on good roads but the last stretch leading here still needs to be fixed and I hoped that my successor the President was here so you told him the same thing you told me so that the road will be completed. And the work will be perfect,” Mr. Mahama said amidst laughter from the crowd.
The former President extolled the leadership qualities of Apostle Opoku Onyinah describing him as a man full of the knowledge of the Bible.
“I want to appreciate him for the work that he did on the national peace council. It was his work on the council that I got into close contact with him. I found him very soft spoken, very peaceful, very friendly but very confident. It was always inspiring to hear him preach.It is important to observe that a lot of the growth that the church has seen happened under him”.
The Church of Pentecost with close to three million members nationwide has elected Apostle Eric Nyamekye as new chairman.
