Joyce Bawa, the personal aide to the president-elect, John Dramani Mahama has assured that the incoming government remains committed to women’s empowerment.
This comes on the back of the president-elect stating that his Vice, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has opened doors for all women.
Speaking on GHOne TV with Lily Mohammed, madam Bawah reassured that the NDC would create opportunities for women in the NDC’s administration.
“The door will remain wide open. In the past, we would probably not have one. This is the apex body, we have other ministerial committees on governance and assets, so certainly there will be more names coming up in the next few days”, she added
However, the President-elect has appointed a 10-member transition team, as mandated by the Transition Act, 2012 (Act 845), to collaborate with the outgoing government to ensure a smooth transfer of power which includes only one woman.
Joyce Bawah also noted that the appointments were based on experience but young and middle-aged women will play significant roles in other committees.
“Look at it from the former chief of staff which was a necessity to be the head because he has a history of what was in government when we left. So, there is a reason why we have the list we have. Many young and middle-aged women will serve our committees,” she assured.
