In a bit to assist school children to get their lives back and support their education in these trying times, World Vision Ghana has donated items worth 76,000 Ghana Cedis to the people of Apiatse, in the Prestea-Huni Valley District.
The items include over 2,000 exercise books, about 500 school bags, school uniforms, and other essentials, are expected to aid the teaching and learning of school children within the community.
In his address to the press, Mr. Richard Okai, the Integrated Programs Director for World Vission Ghana explained that it was important for them to reach out to the school children in Appiatse some of whom have become orphans through the unfortunate accident and put smiles on their faces.
He further assured that World Vission Ghana would continue to mobilize and continue to assist the Appiatse community in the future.
According to the Technical Programs Manager, in charge of education, Mr. Andrew Ofosu Dankyi, the donation forms part of the organization’s vision of repurposing significant investment to education in three targeted areas of teacher capacity, Community
participation, and material development.
“This donation is geared towards assisting the children in Appiate in these difficult times and ensure that they do not lack behind in their teaching and learning while all efforts are being done to restore their community back to its former state”.
The Appiatse Community on January 20, 2022, was destroyed by a chemical explosion from a mining truck it collided with a tricycle along the Kumasi-Bogoso road in the Western Region, claiming 17 lives and injuring hundreds.
