Ghanaian music whizz, Xlimkid, has accused fellow musician, O’Kenneth of Asakaa music group for sidelining his contribution to their recent joint ‘Pain in Glory’ music project.
According to sources close to Xlimkid, Xlimkid is not a member of the group they just collaborated with O’Kenneth for the Pain in Glory EP After over eight months of hard work by both contributing artists O’Kenneth has taken sole credit for the project, which has it the popular song ‘Lonely Road’ and is the only one who holds the right and ownership of the song’s masters marginalizing Xlimkid’s involvement and contributions, tagging him as just a feature artiste from the distributor standpoint instead of co-ownership.
O’ Kenneth and Team have refused to share details and a copy of the contract signed between him and the distributor and promoting the project as primarily his work, leaving Xlimkid in the dark about the details of paperwork and royalties saying he paid for the production and makes him the owner of the masters, However in copywrite laws paying for masters doesn’t make you the sole owner in collaboration projects until both parties are signed under agreements to that effect and even on that note there is studio advance for that a project advance from a label or distributor and the masters are handled for some time.
“O’kenneth and Team didn’t share any form of documents, no contracts, nothing. Xlimkid doesn’t know, the conversation between O’kenneth and the Record distributer all the distributor said to Xlimkid’s team has he owned half share of the masters and with ‘O’ Kenneth owning the rest and Xlimkid wasn’t captured on the rights to the projects And when he confronted ‘O’Kenneth about the details of paperwork and masters, royalties in regards to the distribution and distributor, he told Xlimkid not to worry he will over months still he eventually stop responding to his calls and text messages ” when he kept pushing to understand the conversations after waiting over nine months and No responds “O’kenneth and Team start to tag Xlimkid as disturbing and ungrateful.
Speaking to the music distributor, on the contract, Xlimkid is credited as just a featured artiste on the distro platforms and not as a joint collaborator on paperwork which Xlimkid wants fixed but “O’kenneth and Team doesn’t show any interest of fixing this but rather decides not to answer or respond to any form of questions about the project both artists jointly did. The distributor disclosed that he owns 50% of the song’s masters and will receive royalties for ten years which Xlimkid owns nothing.
Xlimkid’s camp has been demanding a copy of the contract for the past nine months and a joint meeting with the distributer and O’ Kenneth Team, but to no avail. This lack of transparency has caused significant damages to Xlimkid, preventing him from knowing his rights and stance on the project preventing labels interested in his co-collaborations to proceed their engagements since O’kenneth and Team has given off the rights and masters without considering Xlimkid.

“We started demanding for the contract for the past nine months and still has not been sent to the artist, and it has brought him a lot of damages for not receiving that contract and knowing his stance or his rights towards the projects they jointly made.”
“He took the project, and didn’t consider Xlimkid from the beginning when we asked for a joint meeting on production and cost-sharing, we always say everything is in control excuses; However as what is being preached as a joint project that is not how it is O’ Kenneth went running his own negotiations and every engagement, which is strongly affected Xlimkid.”
Additionally, O’Kenneth’s actions was restricting Xlimkid’s ability to perform the song together, When the two are booked for a show, O’Kenneth reportedly claims “Xlimkid is part of Asakaa Music is either sick or unavailable, further sidelining him” for the event all by himself, until the organizers reach out to Xlimkid via his social media handle Dms then he gets to know their intention.
Xlimkid’s camp asserts that O’Kenneth took control of the project and conducted the negotiations independently, having his sole video shoots conversations and all production work though Xlimkid team constantly reached out to know what the plan was so they could know actual cost for a shared contribution, which has had a detrimental effect on Xlimkid as he not being given the rights to contribute financially.
Also O’kenneth and Team submitted for TVMA’s as owner and sole rights to the Pain in Glory projects representing Xlimkid as a featured artiste though Chatter House notified his team that the project was campaigned and promoted on all DSPs as joint project they still insisted that it a sole ownership to O’Kenneth leaving Xlimkid out the conversation until Chatter House making their own research and understanding it was a joint project by both artist it was late and prevented Xlimkid from nomination’s into the best new artist category of TGMA’s.
If O’kenneth and team strongly believes they haven’t sold anything or project masters why is a contract sending a problem, why is it taking so much time , why did they state Xlimkid as a featured artist instead of a collaborator or a co-owner artist as the distributer claims.
