A communicator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Grace Amoabeng, has criticised the appointment of Malik Basintale as Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Enterprise Agency (YEA), describing it as a reward for political venom rather than professional merit.
Speaking on GHToday on GHOneTV on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, Amoabeng stated that Basintale’s elevation to the position was not based on intellectual or professional competence.
The former Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was a vocal critic of the Akufo-Addo administration while in opposition.
He also led a team of bikers known as the “2K and 3K Men,” whose role during the 2024 general elections was to campaign for the NDC and monitor polling stations.
President John Dramani Mahama appointed Basintale as YEA CEO within the first month of his second term.
Since assuming office, Basintale has introduced several youth employment initiatives aimed at tackling unemployment among Ghana’s young population.
However, Amoabeng insisted the appointment was not merit-based.
“Malik Basintale was appointed not because of competence, but because of how well he insulted while in opposition,” she said.
She described the move as a dangerous precedent that should not be entertained in the country’s political culture.
