Zoomlion Ghana Limited has strongly rejected findings by the Auditor-General concerning its cleaning and vector control services provided during the 13th African Games, describing the allegations as “untrue.”
In a press statement issued on May 27, 2026, the company said media reports on the Auditor-General’s findings had misrepresented the nature of the services it rendered during the continental sporting event.
According to Zoomlion, allegations relating to duplication of labour charges, undefined service cost heads and lack of itemised bills of quantities failed to reflect the operational realities of the assignment and ignored supporting documentation already made available to the Auditor-General.
The company explained that the report incorrectly combined vector control services with janitorial services, despite both operating under separate contracts with different personnel, equipment and operational schedules.
Zoomlion stated that vector control services involved mosquito control, fogging and management of pests such as rodents, reptiles and cockroaches using specialised equipment, while janitorial services covered waste evacuation, mopping, disinfection, toilet maintenance and general cleaning activities.
It stressed that labour charges appearing under both contracts did not amount to duplication but represented legitimate staffing costs for two different operations.
The company further stated that all invoices submitted were backed by contracts and service level agreements which clearly defined the scope of services, including coverage areas, task frequency and quality standards.
According to the statement, the services provided included more than 30 operational activities such as emptying colour-coded waste bins, mechanical sweeping, vacuum cleaning, removal of stains and cobwebs, provision of sanitary supplies, mobile toilet services, medical waste treatment and water supply with cesspit emptying.
Zoomlion also disclosed that it deployed equipment and logistics across four competition venues — the Accra Sports Stadium, Borteyman Sports Complex, Achimota Cricket Oval and Bukom Boxing Arena.
The deployed resources reportedly included compaction trucks, medical waste trucks, thermal foggers, floor scrubbing machines, vacuum cleaners, mobile toilets, personal protective equipment and consumables.
The company maintained that all invoices, contracts, equipment deployment records, service schedules and supervision logs had been submitted to the Ministry of Sports and other relevant institutions associated with the African Games.
Zoomlion stated that the Auditor-General had access to the documents and ample opportunity to verify the authenticity of the invoices and operational activities undertaken.
The company also highlighted that services were provided continuously from March 1 to April 1, 2024, covering a full week before the Games began.
According to the statement, more than 350 personnel received training at the Army Peace Operations Training School between February 4 and 24, 2024, in areas including waste management, vector control, health and safety, and conflict resolution.
Zoomlion noted that the waste segregation system implemented during the Games helped reduce the event’s carbon footprint and added that there were no sanitation failures or disease outbreaks recorded throughout the competition period.
The company concluded by reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, accountability and integrity in all its operations.
