Ghana’s president–elect, Nana Akufo- Addo has condemned acts of violence allegedly being perpetrated by supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the party’s victory in the 2016 presidential and parliamentary polls.
“I do recognise that there have been some instances of misconduct and altercations that should never have happened. Such behaviour is unbecoming of us,” he said on Sunday in a speech he delivered at the party’s Thanksgiving Service held at the Accra Sports Stadium.
He thus called on “all Ghanaians to act with kindness, generosity and magnanimity towards one another and to forgive anyone who may have wronged or hurt you. Remember, the battle is the Lord’s.”
The Electoral Commission on December 9, 2016 declared Akufo-Addo as the winner of the 2016 presidential race.
He polled 5,716,026 votes representing 53.85% of the total vote cast to give him an edge over the ruling National Democratic Congress leader Mahama, who garnered 4,713,277 votes representing 44.40% of the total votes.
