Hundreds of ruling New Patriotic Party polling station executives in the Effia Constituency in the Western Region are appealing to the National Vetting Appeals Committee to disqualify an aspirant in the Constituency – Dr Addo Kwegyiriba – from contesting the April 25 primaries.
There have been two separate reports about the eligibility and disqualification of Adjoa Kwegyiriba. First was that of Western Regional Chairman of the party, Francis Ndede Siah who indicated that the aspirant will contest, but that was not the case when the regional report was issued.
Speaking at a Press conference at the party’s office, a polling station executive Gregory Otoo appealed to the appeals committee to apply the laws of the party to prevent them from seeking further redress from the law courts.
“Dr Adwoa Kwegyiriba’s nomination to contest the Effia Constituency seat, breaches Chapter 10, Article 94 (b) of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana which stipulates that a person does not qualify to be a member of Parliament unless “he is a resident in the Constituency for which he stands as a Candidate for election to Parliament or has resided there for a period of not less than five (5) years out of the ten years immediately preceding the election for which he stands, or he hails from that constituency” he emphasised
Tongues are wagging in the Effia and some other constituencies in the Western Region that there could be yet another change to the list of persons who have qualified to contest in the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries as the regional vetting report released and signed by the chairman Fredrick Freduah Anto and Secretary Charles Bissue saw the disqualification of Dr Adjoa Kwegyiriba.
Gregory Otoo further entreated the Appeal’s Committee to conduct due diligence on these verifiable facts to guide their final decision on the matter rather than accommodating what he described as lies being peddled by the few Constituency Executives with the support of some Regional Executives to bring avoidable confusion into the Effia Constituency and described Dr Kwegyiriba as an alien aspiring candidate
