V/R: Ho Central MP donates to Zongo communities

The Member of Parliament for the Ho Central Constituency Benjamin Kormla Kpodo has donated assorted food items to Muslim communities across his Constituency in support of the annual Ramadan fasting and prayers.

The donation which included items such as bags of rice, bags of sugar, packs of mineral water, bags of sachet water, gallons of cooking oil and packs of mineral drinks is estimated at a cost of Gh¢ 4,300.00.

Presenting the items to Chiefs and elders at the Ho Central mosque on Saturday 9 May, the MP noted that the donation is an annual ritual that he performs to the Zongo communities in support of the demands of the Holy month of Ramadan.

He said, “this donation is an annual ritual that I perform to support the Zongo communities in my constituency in support of the demands of the Holy month of Ramadan,” while adding that; “this is the time for meditation and deliberations so you must take this period very seriously because what you’re doing in this period, you’re not doing it for yourselves but for the country Ghana”.

The MP took the opportunity to urge the Zongo communities to continue to adhere to the Covid-19 protocols in order to ensure a healthy fasting period.

“We find ourselves in a very difficult period but I would rather urge you to continue to strictly observe the Covid-19 protocols in order to ensure a disease free fasting in this Holy Month of Ramadan,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the Muslim community, Turawah Yushau, the Ho Central Zongo chief expressed gratitude to the MP for the initiative adding that, “this is becoming a regular move by the MP but most importantly, we would remember him not for the food items he brings every year but the various projects he has brought to us, because those projects would be there forever,” he noted.

The Chief, Sarki Turawah Yushau, however, lamented the bad state of sanitation in the Zongo as a result of poor drainage system and the unavailability of a dumping site.

“The sanitation situation in the Zongo is quite poor as a result of lack of a proper drainage system and unavailability of a dumping site which forces people to throw refuse anywhere. We believe you can only find a better solution to this menace so that we can live in a healthy environment.

Aside that, we are pleading with you help complete the six-unit classroom block for our school and the fencing which has stalled for quite a long time, including the CHPS compound project that has since been started in 2012 by the Mahama administration.”

Saturday’s donation to the Muslim communities follows a series of donations by the Ho Central law-maker in bid to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic in the constituency.

The latest of such donations was the presentation of PPEs to some selected institutions including health facilities, lorry parks, prisons and other public places in the Ho municipality to the tune of Gh¢ 41,000.00.
