Hearts of Oak lacks Direction – Former COO

Former Chief Operating Officer of Accra Hearts of Oak, Willem Alexander Coleman says the club’s recent poor run of results can be attributed to management’s lack of direction at the club.

The defending champions of the Ghana Premier League have not found their feet into the new season after going winless in the first four games.

According to Willem Coleman, the interference from superiors at all times makes it difficult for one to work independently and for the betterment of the club.

“There is no peace of mind at the club. There is too much micro management at the club. People are not allowed to express themselves. Every single thing needs permission from the top which is counter productive.” He told Kofi Mensah on Monday Night Football on Starr FM.

Coleman was fired by the club by virtue of his failure to renew Raddy Ovouka’s work permit on time which amounted to the left back missing three games in the second round of last season’s Ghana Premier League campaign.

However, the Former COO insisted that, it was not in his capacity to oversee administrative tasks like that of work permit renewal.

“There is too much treachery at the club in a sense that you are faulted for errors that you are not responsible for. I was supposed to be Director of Football and Operating manager but I was basically a messenger.

“I got blamed for an administrative problem while there was an administrative manager. Everything was micro managed including press releases.” he added.

Speaking about the club’s humiliating defeat to Wydad Athletic Club in the CAF champions league, Willem Coleman again intimated that everything boiled down to mismanagement and not a technical issue.

“That 6-1 in Morocco was not a technical problem. It was a logistical and psychological problem. I can promise you that, if everything was managed in the right way, even if Hearts lost, it wouldn’t have been by that margin.”

Hearts of Accra are currently 16th on the Ghana Premier League table with just three points after four games. They would clash with JS Saoura in the CAF Confederations Cup next Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
