Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia says the State will be fully involved in the funeral of the late Black Stars player, Christian Atsu.
The player’s body was recovered from the rubble of his apartment, following the earthquake which struck Turkey on the 6th of February, 2023, after almost 12 days of tortuous search by a rescue team.
The remains of late Ghanaian football star, Christian Atsu have arrived in his home country, Ghana. His remains arrived at the Terminal 2 VIP section of the Kotoka International Airport at 7:30 pm.
Vice President Bawumia who joined some family members of the deceased and the officials of the GFA to receive the body of the late footballer indicated that Atsu’s family is not alone in this time of grief.
“It is a very sad day that we are here to receive the remains of our brother, Christian Atsu. The earthquake that struck Turkey was devastating, and we prayed every day that passed for our brother to be found but when he was found, he was no more. I will like to take this opportunity on behalf of the President and the government condolences to the Family, Atsu’s twin sister and his brother” he said.
He also extend the condolences to the football fraternity adding “he (Atsu) was much loved and we will surely miss him.”
Vice President also consoled the various Ghana Supporters Unions and all Ghanaians, “it is a very painful loss, but as the good book says ‘we are from Him to Him shall we return. We pray that the soul of our brother rests in the bosom of the Lord.
“We extend our sincere condolences to the entire family for their loss and I would like to say that the State will be fully involved with the family in providing him a befitting burial.”
