The Minister of the Interior, Henry Quartey, has ordered the temporary closure of all land borders as part of measures to ensure the integrity of the December 7 General Elections.
The closure took effect immediately and will remain in place until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, 2024.
A statement issued on Friday, December 6, by the Ministry urged all citizens and travelers to cooperate with State Security Agencies enforcing the directive.
The closure comes ahead of Ghana’s presidential and parliamentary elections on Saturday, December 7, 2024, marking the ninth electoral cycle under the Fourth Republic.
This highly anticipated election sees two political heavyweights competing for the presidency.
Former President John Dramani Mahama, representing the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), seeks to return to power after serving from 2012 to 2016.
Meanwhile, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) aims to succeed President Nana Akufo-Addo and continue his party’s governance.
