The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has hailed the just-ended presidential and parliamentary elections as transparent and responsible.

EC Chairperson Jean Adukwei Mensa, addressing Ghanaians after the successful collation of the election results, emphasised the commission’s commitment to upholding the democratic integrity of Ghana.

Mensa stated, “The voters of Ghana have spoken, they have expressed their choice at the poll and that choice will today be upheld by the Electoral Commission of Ghana. As a commission, we have fulfilled our vowed aspirations to imbibe and transparency, accountability, inclusiveness and responsiveness at the heart of all our operations and I can confidently say that with the help of God, we have fulfilled these aspirations and the expectations of the citizenry”.

Ahead of the elections, the EC had promised to uphold the integrity of Ghana’s democracy by ensuring a free and fair electoral process.

The commission’s leadership emphasised that the election was conducted with the utmost transparency, fairness, and adherence to democratic principles.

In the presidential race, John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), secured a decisive victory, winning 6,328,397 votes, or 56.55% of the total vote.

His main opponent, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), garnered 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%
