The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Fanteakwa North, Haruna Apaw-Wiredu, has been officially declared the parliamentary candidate-elect for the constituency following a dispute over pink sheets from two polling stations.

The declaration was initially delayed due to protests from Kwame Appiah Kodua, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate who raised concerns about discrepancies in the pink sheets.

However, after these issues were addressed, the Electoral Commission (EC) announced Haruna Apaw-Wiredu as the validly elected candidate.

Announcing the results at the EC office in Begoro, the Returning Officer for the Fanteakwa North Constituency, Zacharia Adams, confirmed that Haruna Apaw-Wiredu secured 11,138 votes, defeating Kwame Appiah Kodua, who received 10,847 votes. A total of 581 ballots were rejected.

This victory marks a historic achievement for the NDC, as it is the first time the party has won both the presidential and parliamentary elections in the Fanteakwa North Constituency.

Speaking to the media after his declaration, Haruna Apaw-Wiredu expressed his gratitude to the electorate, describing his win as a clear reflection of the people’s will.

He said, “As a party, we did our own collation with the same sheets they gave to all the parties, so we were surprised that they told us they could not find the pink sheets but we thank God the EC has finally been able to produce the actual outcome of the elections.”
