There is a surge in interest particularly among the youth of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Municipal and District Chief Executive (MDCE) positions in the Eastern Region.
Following the NDC’s announcement of open nominations for MDCE positions, dozens of applications have poured in from all 33 districts and municipalities in the region.
In the Ayensuano District, for instance, six individuals had submitted their application forms and vision statements as of Monday, January 13.

Among the applicants is 38- year old Teinor Francis, who holds an MBA in Finance and an MSc in Economics.
Francis Teinor boasts 13 years of leadership experience in the corporate sector and has served as a former assembly member, HR assistant at the district assembly, teacher, Farmers’ Union president, parliamentary aspirant, and constituency vice chairman.
“I am appealing to Ayensuano People to support me in this process and I believe I will become successful when appointed as DCE. With all the experience that I have gathered as two time assemblyember, did my national service at the assembly, so when it comes to running assembly the experience is there. So I believe when given the opportunity I will be the best person”
Some assembly members and residents are optimistic about his competence.
“We believe Hon. Teinor is competent and has the experience to move the district with development. In fact all assembly members are supporting him” Said an Assembly Member.
At Suhum, Triku Philip Kwasi Quashigah, a teacher who holds an MSc. Computer Science, and currently constituency vice chairman with 20 years of service in various party capacities, is among five candidates filed so far to vie for the position.

The 42 year old man is confident of his competence to develop Suhum municipality.
“I am of a strong conviction that H. E John Dramani Mahama will nominate me, and I will be endorsed by Assembly members in the assembly simply because the NDC is a political party that rewards hard work and loyalty. As I said I have spent 20 years serving this party. I worked under Hon. Fletcher Kwabi, I worked under Hon Julius Debrah, worked under Hon. Margret Ansae. I am the only person who can reunite the party’s support base, strengthen our base and soften the ground for whoever emerges parliamentary candidate in 2028” .
Quashigah’s bid has received significant backing from local chiefs and queenmothers, and assembly members affiliated with both the NPP and NDC. They were at the Party office in their numbers to support him.
The assembly members held press conference shortly after filing the application form to assure Triku Phillip Kwasi Quashigah of 100% endorsement when nominated as MCE.
In New Juaben South, five applicants had so far filed for consideration, including Sawodji Kwame Stephen, a young consultant in law and security with an LLB and LLM, and expertise in supply chain management.
Sawodji is promising to create jobs for the youth through the President’s 24-hour economy program , youth in apprenticeship and ICT training.
After close of nomination on Wednesday, all applicants will appear before the Regional Vetting Committee next week, where three candidates will be shortlisted for submission to the national level.
The final determination will rest with the President.
