President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his commitment to constructing a bridge over the Oti River, a key infrastructure project aimed at boosting regional connectivity and economic growth.
Addressing residents during his tour of the Oti Region on Friday, July 25, the President acknowledged the significance of the project and assured the public that it remains a top priority under his government’s development agenda.
“I have not forgotten my promise to construct a bridge over the Oti River,” he stated. “This bridge will dramatically reduce travel time from southern Ghana to the north and unlock new economic opportunities for our people.”
According to him, the engineering designs for the bridge are near completion, and the project is receiving focused attention under the government’s Strategic National Infrastructure Programme.
Highlighting broader plans to enhance transport and logistics in the region, the President also revealed that government is exploring the potential of inland water transport systems as a complementary intervention.
“We are also exploring the potential of inland water transport systems to connect lake communities and facilitate trade and mobility across the region,” he said.

The Oti River bridge is expected to serve as a crucial link in Ghana’s north-south transportation corridor, improving access to markets, reducing costs of travel, and enhancing the movement of goods and people across the country.
