Solomon Owusu, a leading member of the Movement for Change, has taken a swipe at former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), questioning the credibility of the party’s communication and its outreach efforts to former members.

Speaking on The Verdict show, with Issac Addae on Starr FM on Tuesday, August 26, Owusu said if Dr. Bawumia was serious about his presidential ambition, he would have distanced himself from comments made by NPP communications member, Miracles Aboagye.

“If Bawumia was a serious candidate and indeed wants to make impact in this country, he would have sacked Miracles Aboagye the very first day he came here to make those utterances,” Owusu stated.

“Because you’re speaking on behalf of Bawumia. Now, from where I sit, I know I’m never going to join the NPP. We the Movement for Change are the ones supposed to grant the NPP amnesty to be talking to us, because if you’ve wronged someone, we are to grant you amnesty to talk to us.”

Owusu questioned Aboagye’s authority within the party, describing his remarks as arrogant and misplaced.

“For Miracles to have come here arrogantly telling us, when they even write letters, what is his locus even in the NPP? The decision was taken by the National Council. Is Miracles Aboagye part of the National Council? Was he the one that signed the letter? So on what basis or what profile was he standing on to say that this does not cover those that followed Alan Kyerematen?” he asked.

He further dismissed suggestions that joining the NPP carried any material benefits, emphasizing that loyalty to a political party should not be equated with financial gain.

“What am I going to join a party for? When you’re in a political party, are you paid? They talk as though when you belong to the NPP, every morning they come around to give you money. When we were in the party, we even left you, so now that we’re in opposition, why should we join you? To do what?” Owusu added.
