Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) leader Percival Kofi Akpaloo has maintained that the government owes him significant funds for a road construction project in Goaso, Ahafo Region, even as he faces ongoing investigations by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Friday, September 12, Akpaloo addressed the multiple allegations against him, which include misappropriation of funds, forgery, theft, and causing financial loss to the state.
He refuted claims that he mismanaged public funds, explaining that the road construction in question was entirely financed from his own resources.
“They [EOCO] themselves know that I’ve not committed any crime anywhere, not causing financial loss because the job I did, I used my own resources to build that road from scratch,” Akpaloo said, emphasizing that the state did not provide any upfront funds to initiate the project.
He further revealed that the government owes him 4.5 million cedis for the work completed, and in addition, he personally invested another 4 million cedis to purchase materials necessary to tile the road for the benefit of the local community.
“Even aside the 4.5 million cedis the government is owing me, I’ve used my own money, resources to buy materials worth 4 million cedis to be able to tile the road for the people. They [government] haven’t been able to pay me,” he added, underscoring his point that no public funds were lost.
Akpaloo was arrested at his Kumasi residence on September 3, 2025, and granted police bail under strict conditions, including a GH¢10 million bond with two sureties.
He remained in EOCO custody for several days while arranging the bail, finally being released on Thursday, September 11.
EOCO has confirmed that investigations into the alleged financial crimes are ongoing, with Akpaloo continuing to cooperate with authorities while out on bail.
