Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed his commitment to fostering unity within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the party prepares for its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.
At a breakfast meeting held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at his private residence in Nima, Accra, the former President hosted the five NPP presidential aspirants. The gathering aimed to strengthen camaraderie and underscore the importance of maintaining party cohesion ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Addressing the aspirants, Mr Akufo-Addo expressed deep appreciation for their presence despite their demanding campaign schedules. He noted that their attendance reflected a shared dedication to the collective progress and future of the NPP.
“I have worked closely with each of you and hold you in high esteem,” he said. “Your candidacies are grounded in merit and in your remarkable contributions to our party and nation. I urge you to conduct your campaigns in a healthy, issue-based manner, focused on presenting your visions to the delegates.”
The former President emphasised that his foremost commitment lies in safeguarding the unity of the NPP, ensuring the credibility of the internal electoral process, and building a revitalised party ready to secure victory in 2028.

In a demonstration of solidarity, each aspirant pledged to maintain a competitive but decorous campaign environment. They further assured the former President of their commitment, and that of their supporters, to rally behind the eventual winner to preserve the party’s unity after the primaries.
Concluding the meeting, Mr Akufo-Addo thanked the aspirants for their positive engagement and urged the party’s leadership to guarantee a transparent and credible process that would reinforce unity within the NPP after the primaries.
