Ken Agyapong’s Spokesperson fires back at Miracles Aboagye over ‘twisted’ comments

Kwasi Kwarteng accuses Miracles Aboagye of distorting Ken Agyapong’s remarks to divert attention from alleged NPP primary irregularities.

A campaign Spokesperson for Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Kwasi Kwarteng, has accused Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to NPP flagbearer aspirant Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, of deliberately twisting comments made by the Assin Central MP to tarnish his image and divert attention from alleged irregularities in the party’s last presidential primaries.

In a statement issued on Monday, Mr. Kwarteng said Mr. Aboagye’s recent social media posts were part of a “recycled strategy” to take short clips of Mr. Agyapong’s remarks out of context and mislead the public.

According to him, such tactics will not erase what he described as “overwhelming evidence of irregularities and manipulations” in the NPP’s 2023 presidential primaries, particularly in the North East Region.

“But for these systemic infractions designed in favour of your candidate, there was no way he could have pulled the 61% he got in the last primaries,” Mr. Kwarteng claimed.

He said the Agyapong team had initially chosen silence on these matters in the interest of party unity but could no longer remain quiet amid continued attempts to discredit the MP.

Mr. Kwarteng justified the establishment of an Anti-Rigging Committee by the Kennedy Agyapong campaign, insisting it was aimed at protecting the party from internal manipulation in future contests.

Responding to suggestions that Mr. Agyapong’s utterances contributed to the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections, Mr. Kwarteng dismissed the claim as baseless.

“I am not sure those utterances included the famous claim that ‘when the fundamentals are weak, the exchange rate will expose you,’ at a time when the cedi was incompetently moved from 4 to 17 to the dollar,” he wrote.

He argued that the government’s economic policies — including the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme, inflation levels, and the collapse of the NABCO initiative — were the true causes of voter dissatisfaction, not Agyapong’s statements.

Mr. Kwarteng also accused some members of the government’s communication team of arrogance and condescension towards citizens, warning that such attitudes contributed to the party’s electoral defeat.

“You cannot treat genuine concerns with disrespect, continue to exhibit the same condescending and combative attitude towards senior party members, and turn to blame others for our loss,” he cautioned.

He further advised Mr. Aboagye to adopt a more respectful tone in his public communication, suggesting that his combative posture could hurt the party’s chances in future elections.

“The same pride, combativeness, and arrogance that cost us the 2024 election seem to have intensified in opposition and could very well become the bane of our 2028 campaign,” he warned.
