The Eastern Regional Minister, Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, marked this year’s Valentine’s Day with an act of kindness by paying the medical bills of patients at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital in Mampong in Eastern Region.
The Minister settled outstanding bills totaling GHS 32,000.00 for patients in the children’s and female wards of the facility.
In addition to clearing the debts, she shared chocolates with the patients as part of efforts to show love and compassion to the vulnerable in society.
The gesture forms part of her annual Valentine’s Day outreach initiative aimed at supporting needy patients across the region. Last year, patients at the Eastern Regional Hospital also benefited from a similar intervention.
Speaking during the visit, the Regional Minister assured hospital management that concerns and challenges raised by the facility would be addressed in line with government’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare system.
She noted that government is rolling out a comprehensive infrastructure boost at the primary healthcare level, including the construction of at least two Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds in each district in the region.
According to her, the initiative is expected to enhance access to free primary healthcare and facilitate the achievement of universal health coverage.
Hospital authorities and beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Minister for the timely support, describing the gesture as a relief to many families struggling to settle medical bills.
