The Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Anthony Kwasi Sarpong has said the authority has devised ways of exceeding its target of GH₵170 billion fiscal year for the 2026 fiscal year.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, Commissioner Sarpong said the GRA has already collected over GH₵80 billion in the first half of the year.
“We are very confident that we will meet the target and even exceed the target. If you look at our performance for the first half of the year, we have already collected over GH₵80 billion. This is a clear indication that we are on track. We have put in place measures to ensure that we collect more revenue in the second half of the year. We are expanding the tax net, we are using technology to improve tax compliance, and we are also intensifying our tax education and sensitization programs,” he said.
The GRA Commissioner further disclosed the institution is “working closely with other government agencies to ensure that we block all revenue leakages.”
The GRA, Commissioner Sarpong continued, is also making efforts to improve tax compliance among small and medium-scale enterprises, a strategy which has led to the introduction of a simplified tax system for SMEs to make it easy for them to pay their taxes.
“We recognize the importance of SMEs to the Ghanaian economy. That is why we have introduced a simplified tax system for them. This system is designed to make it easy for SMEs to calculate and pay their taxes. We are also providing them with technical support and training to help them improve their record-keeping and tax compliance. We believe that by making it easy for SMEs to pay their taxes, we will be able to collect more revenue from this sector,” he said.
The Commissioner General also called on Ghanaians to be patriotic and pay their taxes to support government’s development agenda.
“Taxes are the lifeblood of any nation. Without taxes, government will not be able to provide essential services like healthcare, education, and infrastructure. I therefore call on all Ghanaians to be patriotic and pay their taxes. It is our collective responsibility to support government’s development agenda,” he concluded.
