Newly elected Western Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ignatius Kwasi Afrifa, has pledged to unite the party and lead efforts to rebuild its structures and electoral fortunes in the region.
Mr. Afrifa secured a decisive victory over former Regional Organizer Abdul Ganyi Mohammed in the regional executive elections.
His election comes at a critical time for the NPP, which currently holds only two of the Western Region’s 17 parliamentary seats — Takoradi and Effia.
The new chairman says unity will be central to his administration as the party seeks to reorganize its structures, strengthen its grassroots base and regain political ground ahead of the next general election.
Addressing supporters after his victory, Mr. Afrifa called for a united front among members, emphasizing the need for all factions to work together towards rebuilding the party.
Meanwhile, newly elected Regional Secretary Kwasi Bonzoh has expressed confidence in the new leadership and pledged to contribute to efforts to strengthen the party’s structures.
Mr. Bonzoh, who was initially disqualified from contesting before being reinstated, said the new regional executive would work to position the NPP to effectively challenge the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The newly elected Regional Communications Director, Emmanuel Acquaah Essah, also announced plans for a new communications strategy aimed at improving the party’s messaging and engagement with voters across the region.
Mr. Acquaah Essah defeated incumbent Communications Director Issah Fuseini in the contest.
