Veteran gospel subger, Bernice Offei, has been reported dead. She was aged 63.
Music producer, Kwesi Ernest, who confirmed the sad news on his Facebook wall couldn’t immediately confirm the cause of death of the godoel music icon.
In a Facebook post, Ernest wrote: “WE REGRET TO ANNOUNCE THE PASSING OF OUR MOTHER MRS BERNICE OFFIE, SHE WENT TO HER MAKER THIS MORNING, A GOSPEL MUSIC LEGEND HAS FALLEN.”
Offei, widely recognised as one of Ghana’s respected gospel artists, was known for her inspirational songs and long career in Christian music.
She rose to prominence with tracks such as “Hold On,” “Life Is Short,” “Kaashe Gbeyi,” “It’s By Grace,” and other singles that became staples in churches and on radio across the country.
An award-winning artiste, she received Best Female Vocal Performer and Songwriter of the Year honours at the 2009 Ghana Music Awards.
She released several albums over the years, including Hold On, Grateful, Life, Me Ko So, and By Grace.
Beyond music, Offei worked for many years as a banker with Standard Chartered Bank before later focusing more fully on her ministry.
She was educated at Achimota School, held an MPhil in Crop Science from the University of Ghana, and an MSc in Information Technology from the United Kingdom.
She was married to Professor Samuel Kwame Offei (former Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana) and was a mother of two.
Details surrounding the exact circumstances of her death, and funeral arrangements had not been fully released.
Tributes from fellow musicians, fans, and the wider gospel fraternity have started flooding social media.
Offei’s music, often grounded in scriptural themes of faith, perseverance, and grace, continued to resonate with listeners long after its release.
